Steam is fucked

So here it is – 11:24pm on 4th March and I’m still left starring at the gamebox of Supreme Commander 2, unable to play it because Steam won’t let me until it’s 5 March Steam time. For a game that Americans have been able to play since the 1st.

They cant have it both ways. If they want to rape you money wise due to your location, which is already discrimination in itself, they can’t then rape you if you happen to get an advantage time wise. Because heaven forbid you download and play a game 11 hours earlier than their server time, for a game that’s already been out for 4 days overseas.

Don’t get me started on the fact that I’ve bought a disc version, available since Wednesday, that I haven’t been able to even install because the installer is tied to steam and I’m too early. Fuck you. It’s on store shelves everywhere. What are the non-tech savy ppl doing about this? Buying it, getting home and it’s saying “sorry you can’t install because we’re fucks and won’t let you install it until the 5th of March, and we won’t mention in that that we’re actually working off a different time to you so when we say the 5th, we really me the afternoon of the 5th. But we won’t let you know. We’ll just let you get angry.”

In addition, I find out that even though the files are on the dvd, when you do try to install when it lets you, that it insists on downloading the 7gb game from Steam rather than using the files on the dvd in your drive less than a metre away from you. Are you fucking joking. The disc version is to avoid the whole crap with “pre-loading” a game. I’ve been pre-loading with forced local internode severs for the last 2 days, and I’m up to a whopping 16% downloaded so far. Yes steam is a real good idea, I recommend every publisher use it. It’s such a fucking life saver.

Fuck you in the arse til you bleed steam.

This is the exact reason why consoles are better. Disc in and play. I don’t know how PC gamers stand this crap.

I hope the person that made this program is torn apart by rabid dogs, survives, and then dies in a horrific harvester accident, where his/her flesh, bones and organs are processed and spat out the top of the harvester.

Sorry, it has been a long few days trying to get some entertainment for the last few days of my holidays since returning from Japan.

Gaming treasures found and purchased.

Today was the day to actually make decisions and thus make purchases. This meant travelling back to akiba for maybe the 5th time now to actually buy stuff. The objective was to buy jpy stuff not available on local consoles, with an emphasis on quality over quantity, because our suitcase is looking a bit full. So we picked up the following:

Retrogames
-Radiant Silvergun for Saturn (ultra rare and very mint)
-Garou Mark of the Wolves for NeoGeo AES (rarish and very mint. Good to finally own the best fighting game on the NG).
-Sailormoon Saturn NEW (was cheapish and kinda had to have it)
-Kirby 3 SNES Jp
-Rockman 7 SNES Jp

New Games
-Star Ocean International (has english setting, and came with a rad free artbook, hots, and half the price of other stores I’ve seen it at – even better)
-Biohazard 5 Alternate Edition (has english setting)

Disney fun (12 hours of it)

Went to disney land so Rachel could finally experience it. I managed to go on all the rides the others went on, which was mainly due to their lies in saying that they were “fine” and that “this one is the same or tamer than the last”. Bullfuck.

Big shrine with Akiba chaser

The tip today was a big shrine, with a tourist trap market attached. Photos to come.

Sunshine City (a big skyscraper with observatory on top)

We went to a building which has an entire shopping centre inside. We didn’t find much because the place was huge. We instead worked towards 2 goals – visiting the aquarium inside the building (yes another aquarium), and then taking the fast elevator to the top to get to the observatory at the top of the building’s 60 floors. You get a 360 degree view. We took many pics. They come soon.

Yokohama for Aqua Museum visit, stopped off in maid cafe on way home

It snowed this morning. I took some crude footage with the bloggie to show the extent of the snow.

Kylie took us on 3 trains to get to this aquarium place. It was freakin cold. But the stuff inside wasn’t bad. But the trip required several trips outside, at when it’s 1 degree outside and you’re at a location near the ocean, it’s not the best place to be.

We stopped in Akiba on the way back because Matt wanted to go to a robot store. The store was rad but didn’t have much stuff to look at. You can get a fighting robot for ~$1400, which would be awesome. Any time I’d have a disagreement with someone over something, we could initiate a robot knife fight to decide the victor.

At the end of the night in Akiba we went to a maid cafe. It was uncomfortable for me, I don’t know about the others. But the place was weird, and had weird rules, like you couldn’t ask them their age, and you couldn’t touch them. So no slapping them on the arse. A real shame. Crappest thing is, the drinks we pretty bad, and you get charged for every hour you stay in there. So 4 drinks and a hour stay cost $75. Yeah, me not going there again.

Akiba solo

Ill post here when I’m more awake. Essentially Rachel and I were on our own today, so we went to Akiba cause it’s the best suburb in japan evars. But got there and was overwhelmed with everything in “Electric Town”, and couldn’t make decisions. So we’ll put that down as a recon day. I will return to the area again to make purchases several times. I took a video of superpotato, but the video is arse, so I wont bother putting it on here. Here is a pic of the outside instead.

Joypolis episode

I spent the morning trying to locate a case for our bloggie. After finding the best official case (I have to have brand names) I spent the remainder of the time trying to find a device that has a similar screen size to the bloggie so I could buy a screen protector for it. We then got a train to tokyo bay/beach/whatever.

First, before anything else, once we got off the train, I got a starbucks and did the gizmo equivellant of a surgical procedure of adding screen protector to screen.

Today’s trip was to Joypolis, which is a sega themepark. Well, it’s a themepark that’s made by sega, but sadly doesn’t have much sega stuff. For example, there are no Sonic rides. I know, sounds like arseface. It was still fun though.

The half of today’s trip was at Shiboya. It wasn’t a bad spot, but I had run out of energy by nightfall so wasn’t up for much.

Had dinner in a strange/high class resturant that felt like a gunfight was going to break out at any moment. Was weirds.

Then looked at a store called Lami which is a big spread out department store. I saw a cool ethernet hub which had 3 ports and was powered by usb, but I didn’t buy it.
