Anyways, how about that HD-DVD? I feel bad. The prices dropped on everything,
and that's when I bought - so I am officially one of those that didn't support
it... but it doesn't look that way if you look at my cupboard. Rae and I have
40+ discs and counting, I managed to get hold of some good bits, like the rare
Total Recall (superior to the BRD version I might add - yeah that's right, I
call it BRD - not Bluray - we don't call DVD Digital Versatile Disc do we?).
The madness began when I had to have the 360 HD add-on because it was
discontinued, you know the story. Anyways, was hard to get one, as quite a few
stores were already sold out, but it wasn't hopeless yet, it was still in the
geek phase where regular people hadn't caught on about it. I preordered on
DVDcrave, who was due for more stock soon. In the mean time, while at work, Rae
rang the JB down the road, they had 1 sealed left, she asked to hold for an
hour, they gave us until lunchtime (generous), so I left work instantly and ran
down the road to pay for it. $47 for something worth $250 in its prime and $129
a week ago. I was happy. Was told of a sale by the staff there, which was to
start tomorrow. The discs were $40-50 at that time, so I came back next morning
on sale day, left work with stealth. Got there and 2 people were there, guys in
suits, we were all chatting while looking for discs of interest. Picked up the
last Superman and 300 that were there, along with numerous others. Was a good
day. Lucky too, because the place must have been cleaned out at lunchtime, as
there was none left looking there the next day.
I had forgotten to cancel my pre-order with
DVDcrave, and so received e-mail conformation that my order had
shipped. This one was $43. Not bad again. This one stays sealed for the
pool room.
Rachel and I were looking in the department store
as we do on a weekend, looking at the TVs because we were bored, under
one was a HD-EP10 (2nd best Toshiba standalone HD-DVD player you can
get), normally $800, reduced to $149. Cheaper than the Toshiba regular
DVD player. I looked at it, and looked at Rachel, we held off, went
downstairs for coffee, said hell yeahs, and went back up and got it.
Was a good deal, we had a couple of gift cards we put against it, so it
was all good. And you get 5 discs via redemption, I filed it that day.
The movies at retail were worth more than the player. Bloody hell it's
sad... but good for me. I am a game collector, but it was worth delving
in this direction, apparantly these will be worth a lot of money at
some point - I will never sell, but its not bad value, and you can
always burn all these HD films to BRD later on. Everybody wins... well
not everyone - only the smart people like me that got in quickly.
I also got hold of The Ultimate Matrix collection. I am not a big fan
(particularly of 2 and 3), but when a boxed set has all the movies in
the highest quality and res thus far, is on 5 double sided discs, and
takes 2 days back-to-back to view everything, you know a set is quite
worthy of the ultimate title. Nice.
It has been a good month. I have starved everyone once again from
making anything in the way of music, but I hope everyone has had an
enjoyable couple of months back into the new year.
PS. The music from a project I worked on is going into a real game being
released shortly. It surely wont be hard for you guys to guess, its practically
already a given, but until it's actually published, I don't want to say
anything.
